Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
- Formulate feedstock recipes balancing carbon to nitrogen ratio, porosity and moisture using factory pomace and bulking agents.
- Monitor daily windrow metrics including core temperature, moisture and oxygenation during the thermophilic phase.
- Set aeration and turning schedules that keep piles aerobic and prevent odour generation.
- Supervise receiving, stockpiling, pile formation, turning, maturation and curing.
- Manage leachate and stormwater controls so the site stays environmentally compliant.
- Coordinate equipment use, maintenance and safety for loaders, turners and trommels.
- Run quality control and dispatch so finished compost meets commercial agricultural standards.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
- Bachelor's degree or Higher National Diploma in Soil Science, Agronomy, Agricultural Engineering or a related field.
- Proven experience managing composting or organic waste processing operations.
- Working knowledge of windrow management, C:N ratios and compost quality testing.
- Experience supervising site teams, equipment and health and safety requirements.
