Senior Underwriter – Business Development

• Determine acceptability of risks, recommend risk surveys, and monitor and review terms of accounts assigned
• Supervise, train and mentor staff and intermediaries on technical matters
• Approve issuance of underwriting documents and sign documents within authority levels
• Prepare and follow up renewal notices to ensure retention, ensuring timely issuance of renewal notices and renewal terms
• Requisition for premium refunds to facilitate issue of cheques
• Establish that premiums are paid in respect of accounts managed in line with agreed payment plans
• Maintain effective business relationships with intermediaries and clients to ensure effective service delivery
• Prepare documents - policies, endorsements, certificates - within service standards
• Review performance of accounts/intermediaries to ensure the overall loss ratio is kept below 70%
• Carry out regular intermediary and client visits
• Maintain and account for accountable documents
• Liaise with claims and credit control to monitor account performance
• Market company products and services to intermediaries and clients
• Complete reinsurance cards for large risks and ensure smooth relationships with reinsurance partners
• Monitor and ensure QOP standards are upheld in the department

Qualifications & Experience:

• Degree in a business-related field; professional insurance qualification (e.g., ACII, Diploma in Insurance) per advert requirements
• Proven underwriting experience in general/business insurance
• Experience supervising and training staff and intermediaries on technical matters
